March 2025: Workshops and Lectures by Potter-Archaeologist-Entrepreneur on Ancient Cooking Technology

AIA Speaker: Our AIA speaker this week, Dr. Jerolyn Morrison, has a unique profile: professional potter, experienced field archaeologist, and savvy US entrepreneur abroad. Dr. Morrison is faculty of Art History at Baylor University. Her publications focus on the potter's technology and the cooking traditions in the Aegean Bronze Age.
During her visit to the AIA Tucson Society Dr. Morrison will provide a number of exciting opportunities for faculty, students, and the community to learn more about ancient foodways and cooking technology: how ancient cooking pots are studied in the archaeological record, how she has recreated them through experimental archaeology, and how she has cooked in them and served large crowds in Greece. She is the founder of Minoan Tastes, a social-minded enterprise in Greece that promotes the culinary history of the Aegean by working with a network of food and craft experts and scholars. Dr. Morrison has generously lectured in our graduate seminars on experimental archaeology online and it is a pleasure and honor to have her visit in person. Completing the immersive experience, Dr. Morrison will bring with her a replica of a cooking pot and recipes to share with the audience.
Please share it with your students and broader networks. Send me a note if you want to meet with the speaker. University clubs (Undergraduate Anthropology Club, Arizona Classics Club) and K-12 groups (Rincon High School) will join Dr. Morrison during these events.
