This experiment reconstructs a ceramic larnax. A Larnax in ancient Greece, as early as the Bronze Age, was used to hold the ashes of the deceased and in some cases an entire corpse folded in on itself. The final size of this larnax is 30.25 inches long by 13.5 inches wide by 13.5 inches high with an aapproximate weight of 115ibs. Often times, there would be decorations on the outer walls. These decorations are also pursued in this reproduction in the form of a simple floral design and the ceramics coffer was baked in a large kiln to achieve desired results. Configuring and making each slab, minus firing and drying time, took eleven hours.
